[01:06] Kacey K: Hello friend. Welcome to another episode of the simply healthy you. Podcast. I am so grateful to have you here and be infiltrating your brain with today's topic. My name is Casey Kane. I'm an integrative health practitioner, a certified holistic nutritionist, and I have a master's in Psychology. And I am here to bring you science based conversations to help you live healthier and happier. I want to talk about the major mistake I see many women making with their health and it's likely something you're doing right now or have done in the past, myself included. The mistake that, to be honest, is costing you hours, months and years of your life. Hundreds of dollars in pills and powders and tests and programs and an immeasurable amount of your mental energy. And that mistake is chasing symptoms. Here's how you might be doing this. And I don't think that we do it intentionally. It's just this allopathic system of health care that we are used to and following this methodology that gets us in this direction that until you really know there is another way of going about things, you just naturally gravitate towards this. I know I did for a long time as well. So here's how you might be doing this. You have chronic migraines, so you take pain relievers to make the migraines go away, right? You have painful and irregular periods, so one option would be to go on birth control to regulate them. Or again, you take pain relievers to make the pain go away. You are experiencing weight gain, so you cut calories or go on a diet, start intermittent fasting, start exercising to try to lose weight. You have bloating gas indigestion, so you take antacids or gas X or eliminate trigger foods that seem to be irritating your digestion, right? These all seem like normal responses to what you're experiencing. Now, since you're here on this podcast, you might know very well that some of these options are not great or not the way to go. But have you just replaced those things with other natural remedies that still only address the symptoms you're experiencing? So instead of taking over the counter pain relievers, maybe you take a tumor supplement or you take arnica homeopathy for your migraines or your period pain, but you're still just treating that symptom. Maybe you've started seed cycling for your hormones, because I've talked about hormones a lot. I just did a workshop. Maybe you've started seed cycling for your hormones because you know that that is a reason why you may be having painful and irregular periods, but you're still just treating a symptom. Maybe you are eating more whole food plants to address nutrient deficiencies and to reduce calorie intake for weight loss, but in a healthful way. Making sure you're getting your nutrients in while you're eating more nutrient dense food, but ones that are less calorie dense, but you're still just treating the symptom of weight gain. Maybe you're taking digestive enzymes and probiotics for the bloating and the gas because you've heard that those can help with it, but you're still just treating a symptom. While these are recommendations that I make to my clients to relieve some of the symptoms that they are feeling, we also work on their foundation until we can find the root cause of the issues, the treatment. I can't say the word treatment legally, I can't say the word treatment. The support of your body, because I don't treat I'm not a medical doctor. I don't treat the symptoms. We are supporting your body, right? I am helping you support your body in alleviating these symptoms. But if I only look at those systems and support you in reducing those symptoms and not dig deeper and look for that root cause, they're just going to keep coming back. You may be able to get your hormones more balanced or get your digestion to calm down or any of those things with some of the support measures that I talked about. But they are going to come back in some way. Sometimes come back worse, or sometimes we will start experiencing new symptoms because we made some of the symptoms go away and we didn't address that root cause. You have to think, and I've said this before, you have to think about it like an onion and that we are peeling back those layers to figure out exactly what we need to heal. The symptoms are the outer layer. The symptoms are the body's way of saying, hey, Red Flag, something's not good here. Something is out of balance here. Something is bothering us. We are overloaded in some way, right? There's a number of different things that could be going on here. There could be heavy metal issues. There could be parasites. There could be bacterial overgrowth. There could be candida. There could be extreme nutrient deficiencies as a root cause. There are so many different things that could be going on, and the body is sending out these symptoms as a red flag. We can so easily fall into the same trap as allopathic medicine by getting a pill for every DML, right? I could give you tons of homeopathy and supplements and everything else, but I wouldn't be doing my best job if I wasn't supporting you and figuring out what exactly is going on in the deeper core of that onion to figure out how to resolve these things once and for all. Just because you aren't using OTC conventional products doesn't mean that taking 15 supplements and doing infrared sauna and coffee enemas and specialty diets like autoimmune paleo and juice cleanses and T detoxes and intermittent fasting is better. You're still just slapping a bunch of bandaids on to make symptoms go away. Now, I want to say there is no shame here. I did this for many years when I was struggling with my thyroid issues and I thought by getting my thyroid diagnosis that I had figured everything out, that that was the end of the onion, that was the core I'd figured out, well, I have an autoimmune thyroid disease, so that's what's causing everything. But no, that's just a few layers down that hasn't told me what's causing my thyroid issue. It's not normal for my body to be attacking itself and that's in the case of any autoimmune, you might be predisposed to an autoimmune condition in your genetics, but what is going on with your diet, your lifestyle, your environment, that is turning that switch on for your body to go into attack mode? Because as soon as you figure that out and you can turn that switch off, you can live symptom free from your autoimmune disease. It doesn't mean that you don't have that disease going forward, or that predisposition, I should say. But you are not going to be walking around with an active version of that with your body attacking itself. If we can figure out how to turn that switch off if we can figure out what turned it on in the first place and get it to shut off what you might be failing to realize and I know. What I was failing to realize all that time that I was treating symptoms is that all of those little things that I was doing $20 supplement here, $20 supplement there, $10 here. You've got ten different supplements. Now you're spending 100 plus dollars a month on supplements. A $200 nutrition package. Here some free downloads from all the holistic practitioners that you can find on social media, $10 a month gym memberships, $99 a month superfood shakes, you know the deal. All the things that you have signed up for in the past, I signed up for a lot of them too. What we don't realize. And these people prey on us. Not necessarily the holistic practitioners that are giving you the free downloads, but a lot of these systems prey on us because they know, well, if we just make it look like it's $100 a month, if we just make it look like it's this a month or that a month. So many people are going to try to figure it out on their own. Like, you are an intelligent human. It is not for lack of knowledge that you have not figured out what is going on in your life. It's that the system, the strategy, the methodology that we think is how we support our body in getting rid of these diseases is completely backwards. Right? Allopathic medicine treats symptoms 99% of the time. And I know there are a lot of doctors out there that are raging on social media these days saying that all of us in Holistic and naturopathic and functional medicine are liars and knocking them because we're just trying to sell you our shit and our supplements and make money off of you. And they do treat at the root cause and blah, blah, blah. I'm sorry, but eliminating someone's gallbladder because they're having gallbladder issues, gallstones repeatedly, the gallbladder is not functioning properly. That doesn't get rid of the problem that caused the gallbladder to be that way in the first place. Disease in our organs, a disease in our body. By eliminating that organ, that surgeon didn't solve a fucking thing except for making it immensely harder for you to digest food for the rest of your life. That's what they did for you. So, no, I do not believe that most doctors are out there treating with root cause medicine. Absolutely not. And I think what it boils down to is it doesn't feel like you're spending thousands of dollars on these other natural remedies. You're here. You have probably purchased some of the things that I have recommended in some of these podcast episodes or on my Instagram. And I'm not saying that that is the wrong, entirely wrong thing to do. I think we do need to alleviate symptoms, and I absolutely do that for my clients because I don't want you to be miserable until we figure out the root cause. There is a certain reality that dealing with these symptoms causes more stress on the body because we just feel like shit every day. We don't feel like ourselves. We can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we need to be able to start feeling better in order to do that. So, no, I don't make my clients suffer the entire time. Until we discover what the root cause is, we start treating symptoms. And sometimes these symptoms are surface level. They might not be a root cause, a deep root cause. And so sometimes treating some of these symptoms on a surface level does make them go away permanently. And that's fantastic. A lot of the times what we teach in Simply Healthy Academy, that foundation, does take care of a good amount of issues for my clients. And then we can start to really see the inner layers of that onion and say, okay, well, this thing's really lingering around. This symptom is not going away, or now it's kind of worsening, or now it's kind of manifesting a little bit differently. This is telling us the body needs something else. This is telling us pointing us closer in that direction of the root cause. What we don't realize is we are spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours every year researching all of these things on your own, trying to piece it together and never actually getting to the root of your issues. Like I said, even with a formal diagnosis, I thought my autoimmune thyroid disease, I thought that was it. Like, that's the end of the journey. But it's absolutely not. It's just like that onion. The outer layer is those red flags that the body is sending out. A diagnosis is just some of the inner layers. No matter what your diagnosis is, whether it's endometriosis, whether it's Crohn's disease, like, yes, these are just a few layers down. We need to figure out what's causing your endometriosis, what's causing your Crohn's, what's causing your PCOS, what's causing your IBD. These are very common things. I see a lot of my clients coming in with I see a lot of clients coming in without gallbladders these days because years and years ago they just were removing gallbladders. Like, hey, nobody needs this. We don't need one of these things. Let's just take them all out when they start to look diseased and everyone will be fine from there. No, that's going to change your digestion and absorption drastically and that's going to lead to long term health issues because they're not educating anybody about that. So that's your inner layers and finding that root cause inside of the core of that onion is really the key to all of it, the key to long term health. And that is exactly what we work on in Simply Healthy Academy. Now, I will have all of these things available for you to utilize on your journey, like I said, but I want most of these things to be temporary for you because I will find the root cause of your issue and support your body in eliminating it for good. There are some supplements you are going to take. There are some protocols you are going to follow. My goal is for those to be temporary. There are foundational supplements. Not going to lie about that. There's absolutely foundational supplements. There are supplements I take every day and I will be taking for the rest of my life because we just can't get everything we need. And I've talked about that on several podcast episodes already. We can't get everything we need from our food system. Our food system is not as high quality as it used to be. There is only so much that you have the time and energy to learn, though, and your health isn't waiting around for you to figure it out. No offense, right? Like, you know, every day that you're waking up feeling like shit and you tried that supplement, you tried that diet, you tried that program, and it just didn't work. Things just continue to progress and you're going to wake up one day and wonder how you let it get this far. And I know that's a really shitty place to be. I have been there before and I have said, how did I all of a sudden how doing all of these things, doing all the things I thought were right, all the things to take care of myself, how did I end up being so sick? How did I end up being the one? And so and so eats junk food every day and doesn't exercise and all well, just because their time hasn't come yet doesn't mean that it won't. And I'm not wishing ill on anyone, don't get me wrong, but it will happen. We know some of us just have a shittier genetic makeup than others. I'll be honest, my genetic profile is pretty terrible. And I'm really grateful to know those things now. And you don't need to get your genetics tested. It's something that I hope to be able to provide in the future. But you don't need to in order to know and tune into your body to see what's going on and to see where its weaker points are. Like, I don't have a strong detox profile. I know that a lot of the time, if my liver is overloaded, it's going to cause health issues for me. And so I need to be supporting my liver on a daily basis. And those are things that I help my clients figure out. That is what we work on in simply healthy academy. And this is why so many clients will repeat rounds of Simply Healthy Academy, because, yes, the foundation of nutrition is going to be the same. The foundation of your exercise and the things that you work on with Kathy, with your life coaching and your mindset, those things are going to be similar from round to round. But we're constantly adding new things. And even if we weren't, your health is constantly evolving. So what you were going through in the first round of Simply Healthy Academy is not going to be the same as the second round of Simply Healthy Academy. And healing isn't linear, unfortunately. Sometimes you really start to feel better and then something else pops up as the body settles into a new routine. In some areas, like, yes, you've improved a lot of things, but then if we didn't know that a root cause was there, if maybe it was hiding because it was being masked by so many different symptoms, sometimes these things just take a while to figure out. And this is where investing in the right professionals will help you cut the time, money and energy and get you results faster. And that's why in this next round of Simply Healthy Academy, I am so freaking excited to be able to also have functional labs in my back pocket to be able to use with clients when we see these things lingering around and can't quite figure out what the root cause is. Because now we'll be able to test, now we'll be able to find out faster, and we'll be able to use really specific protocols to help you get results that much faster. Now, the healing may still take. Some of these protocols be like six months if you have a parasite or if you have bacterial overgrowth or you have Candida. Some of these things could take up to six months if you have extreme nutrient deficiencies. Some of these things can take six to twelve months to see a turnaround on. And that doesn't mean that you won't be able to leave Simply Healthy Academy and not have all the tools. I give you everything in one round of Simply Healthy Academy. You can ask my clients. They don't come back because they don't understand something or because they didn't get the answers. You get all the answers, you get all the information, probably too much information than what you will know how to do with. But I do that on purpose because I want you to have all of that right out the gate and I want you to be able to do what you feel you can with that information. And if some of it is, hey, I can't implement this right now, I'm going to come back in a second round and work on that piece of it. Great. A lot of clients do compartmentalize that way and say, you know what, this is my primary focus this round. This is the biggest thing that I'm having issues with, with my health. I want to focus on that. And when that is resolved, then round two, we work on something else. And I have several clients right now who are going on their third and fourth rounds because that's what we're doing. We're peeling back those layers, we're working on those symptoms, we're getting at that root cause, and we are supporting the body in eliminating those things. But these things just take time, right? So what are some of the things that my clients have experienced? What are some of the things that I have worked on with them? I haven't read a lot of or shared a lot of the wins or the testimonials from my clients. In the last episode that I recorded, it was really more of the details about the program. If you didn't listen to that, go to that one because I know it's almost an hour long, but that is all the details about the program. If you are someone who has been here and listening and we have never spoken before and you're kind of just lingering in the dark there and enjoying the information and thinking that this might be something that's for you. Go get all those details. You don't even have to talk to me. You can just listen to that podcast episode. And when you are feeling more confident, please do reach out. I really do think that I've said this many times, but I really do think that this program is something that every woman could benefit from going through at least once, because so many of us are walking around with something that needs to be improved with our health. Especially if you have gone through traumas in your life, if you have gone through major stressful events, which like, who the fuck hasn't? If you have had children, that takes a giant toll on your body. Your body ends up very different on the other side of pregnancies than before. And there's just so many things we go through as women, and then we have menopause and everything else. There's so many things that our body goes through versus men that we really do need this kind of support at one point in our lives. So let's talk some client testimonials here. One of my clients, she really came in with some bad migraines. She had some postpartum weight that just was not budging. She was having extreme anxiety episodes, things like that. And by the end of the program, by the end of when it was a four month program, this was a client. In an earlier round, she said, supporting my hormones and improving my nutrition has helped me lose £15 to date, reduce my anxiety, and get rid of my monthly migraines. Another client of mine, she had been put on two blood pressure medications prior to enrolling in her first round of Simply Healthy Academy. In the first round of Simply Healthy Academy, we were able to reduce her blood pressure. We finally got those numbers to shift. And in her second round of Simply Healthy Academy, we got the okay from her doctor to eliminate one of the blood pressure medications. And we were able to maintain her blood pressure at 118 over 80 was her average most of the time, which was just absolutely phenomenal. Some other client testimonials. I can't begin to explain what a game changer this has been for me with regard to my migraines. The fact that they are no longer weekly or sometimes multiple times a week and last one to three days each time is a testament to how valuable this information was. Now I am making up for so much lost time for migraines, and I'm so much happier overall. Awesome. I mean, this client, she said her husband would be able to look at her and tell that a migraine was about to come on because they were so frequent and they were so intense. For her, it was literally she was losing so much time in her life that she now got back after just one round. We were able to reduce those migraines. Now we still are going to be working on figuring out what exactly was the root cause of those migraines. But again, I want you to be able to start seeing results and start feeling better in your body while we get to the root cause. It's not a quick approach, and I know that's not sexy. People like, gosh, this is going to take me a long fucking time. Yeah, when you do it the right way and you have decades of your life that you have spent in this yoyo, roller coaster, hamster wheel, whatever the fuck you want to call it, of things that you've been trying to do for your health that everyone's been telling you is going to help you improve things. But it's really just diet culture bullshit. When you have spent decades doing that kind of shit to your body, it's not going to be dissolved in five months. Hate to break it to you. We can significantly reduce symptoms like these headaches, migraines that clients have been experiencing, blood pressure. I have this one here. This client did one round of simply healthy academy. She said, since 2012, from the end of October to right before Thanksgiving, I've experienced strong episodes of seasonal depression. Since simply healthy academy. There was no depression. She literally finished Simply Healthy Academy in October and was expecting that she was going to get the seasonal depression, like, shortly after we had finished. And she said, there's absolutely no depression whatsoever. Thanks again for helping me create a better lifestyle and understanding my needs. She knows exactly what she needs now. She also has some iron deficiency, and her practitioner had recommended iron supplements. We were able to get her off of those super quick. Those are not really a great one to have to take. They're pretty hard on digestion a lot of the time. If someone is extremely depleted, that might be a case for it. But we were able to get her off of them super quickly just by using different foods in her diet to get those iron levels up. Another client I can't believe how quickly my hormonal issues have improved. My periods used to be extremely heavy, so heavy that I was considering surgery after implementing the hormone support strategies, my period is so much lighter. I was skeptical that I would be able to fix this without surgery. And I'm so thankful for the tools to fix this. I mean, that is just so common. And again, I talk about gut health and hormone health the most because they are the most common things that I hear women struggling with in some way, shape, or form. And there are very different root causes that cause those issues. But by doing frameworks, by implementing frameworks that help you support your gut, that help you support your hormones, we can make a lot of those symptoms go away and then take a deeper look at, okay, what's still going on and what's pointing us in the direction of how to find this root cause. Another client casey was the first one to ever suggest that my gallbladder removal from years ago could be the culprit for my chronic indigestion and reflux. After eating with her suggestions, it's completely gone. Again. I have so many clients that come in without gallbladders. It's so disappointing. It breaks my heart every time I hear how many of them do not have gallbladders. And there are definitely simple strategies that we can implement right away that will drastically change your digestion and help you feel better. Another client I wish I didn't wait. I am so glad I joined to this group and I've already been seeing positive changes in such a short amount of time. Always invest in yourself. This woman has been a part of weight loss programs in the past and ones that I can't even really argue with the sustainability factor of what they were teaching. They were teaching some pretty reasonable things, but not necessarily the nutrient density that we teach inside of Simply Healthy Academy, how to really create a flexible plan that fuels your health but also gives you the ability to enjoy foods that you love. Another client and this one I have seen so many times. There's actually a question on the feedback form that I ask all of my clients to fill out. It is an anonymous feedback form because I want them to be honest and I don't want them to feel like I can identify them from their feedback. And so it's an anonymous form and there is a question on there that asks every single time because pricing typically changes and the more we add to the program, the more that we need to kind of adjust where we are in the market. That's a reality of things when there's a difference between paying for something that is really in depth and I do see a lot of programs out there that are absolute crap and charging people a shit ton of money. And that's not my goal. I like to keep this program accessible. And so I always ask every single client if they felt like the program was worth the value that they paid for it. And 99% of the time, people either respond with it was worth what I paid, or I believe the value of the program far exceeds the price. And this person actually wrote in a box separately because they have the ability to elaborate if they want to. I truly believe that the value of this program far exceeds the price. That's a great testament in and of itself, right? And especially the fact that 100% of my clients are returning in the next round, which means they invested the dollars once. And I do have discount plans for my returning clients because I again want it to be accessible and there is some repeat information. So I'm not going to charge you full price every single time. The accountability and support absolutely does not change. No matter how many rounds you've done, you get the equal level of support as if it was your first round. There is always added things to the program, but there is a tiered discount program. So the first time you re enroll in the program, you get a discount. And then the third time to think about that for a minute, the third time you enroll and beyond is a 50% discount on the program so that you can still get that accountability. We can still help you work through the layers of the onion. So another client. My expectations were more than met. The experiences, the shared frustration, and the brainstorming on solutions was amazing. The education is beyond monetary value. Learning how all of our body systems connect and how to find a balance to feel your best is amazing. Another client. I can't recommend this program enough. I gained far more than I thought possible. Enrolling in Simply Healthy Academy was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. I've been working with this client for about a year now. She's coming back again because we are working on a lot of things for her and there's just been a lot of life happening for her too. And I think that's a reality of this journey that I can't possibly ignore and that we do factor into simply Healthy Academy is that the reason why we have it be five months is so that you have the ability to go through life while you are navigating this new journey and we can help support you through it. And she's just had a lot of life going on, so she hasn't been able to implement a lot of the things that she has learned in the way that she would have wanted to. I mean, so many of my clients have similar stories where she broke down in tears at one point during the call because she just feels, she said, I feel like I'm not even human enough for myself, let alone for my two year old son. And of course that's going to make you emotional. Of course you're going to be like, well, I can't expect much from my body because I don't know how I'm going to feel when I wake up tomorrow. That's no way to be living. I want to help you see the light at the end of the tunnel. I want you to start feeling what it feels like to have some of these symptoms go away and then to be able to attack these issues at the source so that we can support your body and feeling the best that it can possibly feel. So you can dream about the things that are possible. It's springtime and I know you're already thinking about your summer plans. And if you are already thinking about your summer plans and what you're going to be able to do based on health limitations, you need to get your ass inside of Simply Healthy Academy because you should not be adjusting your life goals based on what you think your body is capable of doing. You can experience the same things that my clients have experienced. You just have to decide that you're ready to stop wasting time. To be honest. I mean that with so much love. I hope you know that. I hope this is not your first episode because I am always blunt and straightforward, but I mean it with so much freaking love. You have already spent more than the price of this program. I guarantee you have spent if you added up all of the things that you have purchased in the name of better health. All the things that you have participated in in the name of better health.
